What is virtual care?

Get expert vestibular care from anywhere! Virtual care, also referred to as telemedicine or telerehabilitation, is using technology to provide you with real-time health care at a distance. Appointments happen online using secure video conferencing.

We started offering vestibular rehabilitation through virtual care due to COVID-19. These online video appointments have proven to be a great option that allows you to get quality physiotherapy assessment and treatment from your own home.

Benefits of virtual care

  • Access specialized vestibular rehab from a distance

  • Make the most of your time

  • More convenient and less stressful compared to travelling to the clinic

  • Flexibility to use a combination of in-clinic and virtual care to best meet your needs

  • Progress your exercise program and work towards your functional goals in your own environment

  • Covered by most extended health plans, the same as in-clinic physiotherapy

How does virtual care work?

Your virtual care appointment happens with online video conferencing, similar to FaceTime or Zoom, but using a simple and secure platform. You can use any computer or device that has a camera, microphone, and internet connection. Once you book your virtual care appointment, we email you a link to log in.

What happens during an online vestibular rehab session?

Much of a virtual care session is the same as what we do in-clinic. We do a thorough assessment, determine an accurate diagnosis, and create a treatment plan to help you feel better and achieve your goals.

We ask questions and hear your story, to help understand your symptoms and what is important to you. We evaluate how your head and eyes move, look at your coordination, and assess your balance and walking abilities. We help you understand your symptoms, diagnosis, and expected outcomes. Just like in-clinic care, virtual vestibular rehabilitation is active and includes exercises to help decrease dizziness and improve your balance.

How to make the most of your virtual care session

  • Check that you have a strong internet connection

  • Make sure your browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) is up to date

  • Have a safe space to move around, and be prepared to adjust the position of your device to show how you stand and walk

  • Minimize background noise and distractions

“I have been suffering from vertigo for over 5 years sometimes mild to debilitating. I have seen two specialists before being referred to Vestibular Health. Just after a few sessions…my vertigo and anxiety was greatly reduced and it was done virtually!  I never had to go into the office during the pandemic. I feel so much better…I am still working on reducing my anxiety over having lived with it for years. I wish someone would have suggested this treatment years ago!”
