Shaleen Sulway - BSc, BScPT
Co-Director & Physiotherapist
Shaleen is the founding co-director of Vestibular Health, a clinic dedicated to helping patients who experience vertigo, dizziness, balance disorders, and facial nerve palsy. With over 23 years of experience as a physiotherapist, Shaleen is passionate about making a real difference in her patients' lives, offering individualized, compassionate care that helps people regain their confidence and independence.
Shaleen is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team at the Hertz Clinic for Meniere’s Disease and Vestibular Dysfunction at the University Health Network (UHN). Every week, she collaborates with leading specialists, Drs. John Rutka (ENT), Felix Tyndel (neuro-ophthalmology), neuro-psychiatrists, vestibular audiologists, and a mental health nurse, to assess and treat some of the most complex dizziness cases, ensuring that each patient receives holistic, expert care tailored to their needs.
In 2010, Shaleen founded the Hertz Vestibular Rehabilitation Clinic at Toronto General Hospital, which evolved into Vestibular Health in 2019. Thousands of patients have benefited from her one-on-one, personalized assessments and treatments. In 2024, Shaleen became one of Canada’s first Advanced Practice Vestibular Physiotherapists at the Enhanced Dizzy Assessment Clinic (EDAC) at Toronto General Hospital. Her work there helps reduce wait times for patients who need specialized medical care, making it easier for people to access the support they need.
In addition to her expertise in vertigo and vestibular rehabilitation, Shaleen has a strong interest in facial palsy. Many of her patients were presenting with conditions that led to both dizziness and facial weakness, and in 2019 she started her journey to train in this field. She has completed a number of introductory, advanced, and practical courses in the field and is a member of the Facial Therapy Specialists International, a global network dedicated to providing high-quality care for patients with facial palsy.
Shaleen believes in empowering others through education and research. She has an appointment as Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Physical Therapy, University of Toronto. She has provided internships for students and assists with vestibular rehabilitation teaching. She also delivers courses and workshops to physiotherapists in hospitals and clinics in Ontario, and has travelled to teach in Thailand and South Africa. Shaleen’s research has focused on the prevalence of vestibular issues in elderly patients who experience falls, and she has presented her findings at conferences around the world. Shaleen has multiple publications, including a chapter on Advances in Vestibular Rehabilitation, which she co-authored with renowned physical therapist Dr. Susan Whitney.
Shaleen will help you better understand your condition, reduce your symptoms, and support you in achieving your personal goals. Guided by her compassionate care and expertise, you will navigate your journey to recovery with confidence.
When she's not at work, Shaleen enjoys running along the beach, cooking, baking, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and two daughters.
